When Should You Focus More On Cardio Training To Get Fit?

This is a really interesting question and one that I am regularly asked by people looking to get in good shape. Unfortunately, like nearly every question about health and fitness the answer I usually give is, it depends. We are all individually unique with our needs and where we are at with our health and fitness journey so the timing of when to really up the intensity with your cardio training efforts will vary significantly from person to person. You have to appreciate that this type of training is very stressful to the body and problems can easily arise if you are not moving correctly to begin with, or if you have significant weaknesses present. I have found that cardio training tends to be highly over-rated in terms of the rewards it provides to the body and as a result it is regularly over-used and even abused often leading to chronic injuries that could have been avoided if a better plan was put in place. In this article, I will explain how I know when the time is right to shift my training focus to higher intensity type of cardiovascular training.

How To Maximize Your Motivation To Get Results With Your Health & Fitness

I have been a Personal Trainer based in Melbourne for over 20 years now and I would say without a doubt the number one obstacle preventing people from achieving their goals is TOO MUCH STRESS! I don’t know anyone who does not want to get results with their health and fitness goals, yet that is exactly what it seems like when I see my clients sabotaging their own goals by eating junk food, drinking too much alcohol, working too many hours, not drinking enough water, and so on. I could keep going and going but I think you get the point. For many years I had spent endless hours studying and paying big bucks to learn the latest exercise methods and techniques to provide the best Personal Training experience ever! However I was very frustrated with the lack of results my clients would achieve as no matter how hard the PT sessions were the little habits they did outside of the training negated any positive outcome. I soon came to the conclusion that I had to help them change their mindset and make small positive changes to the destructive habits they were stuck with. It is easy to label someone lazy or blame poor results on a lack of motivation, desire, willpower and willingness to stick to a plan when nobody has ever shown them how to find these attributes in the first place. In this article I will share with you some of the important lessons and tricks I learned over the years to help you avoid the trap so many fall into.

Is Interval Training Your Missing Ingredient To Achieving Great Health & Fitness?

Most people believe that the key to losing fat and getting in shape is to spend lots of time doing long slow cardio sessions. If you don’t get a sweat then it is not a good workout! There are several problems with this type of thinking. Firstly if you are just starting out the chance of suffering an injury with this approach is very high for the body is not ready for this type of demand and you also need to be certain you move well enough to handle this type of stress. Plus you are going to need a lot of time to devote to this type of training and most people are time poor already. Secondly, this type of exercise may burn calories at the time but it is not only the calories that is important. This does not mean all cardio exercise is bad for there is a better way and one that does not take that long to do and more importantly provides the body with positive adaptations that are very similar to the effects of strength training. That method is called INTERVAL TRAINING! In this article, I discuss how this works and how you can implement it into your weekly schedule no matter what age or ability you are.

Going From Zero to Hero with Your Health & Fitness

When resuming back to exercise after a prolonged break there’s the over-whelming tendency to try to catch up to your previous level too fast that most often results in burnout, potential illness, excess soreness, and needless injury. The best fitness gains will occur when you maintain a regular fitness program that has a strong focus on nutrition in the beginning, and strives to achieve a perfect balance of work and rest with the workouts. Gradually progressing forward while working on building good lifestyle habits is the key and in this article we show you how to do this.

Focus On the Process Of Getting Into Shape Instead of Your Desired Results

Getting in shape is never easy and in the early stages it may seem like you are getting nowhere. Today’s modern world is moving so fast and technology has allowed us to get things at the click of button that we have come to expect instant gratification in just about everything we do. And when it doesn’t happen people become discouraged very quickly. Most health and fitness experts will tell you the best way to overcome this is to set specific goals you can measure that keep you on track and accountable. For a long time I preached this method too, and while I had some wins with this approach I had many more losses. I came to realize that success has more to do with the process of getting in shape instead of what you wanted. Instead of focusing on the end goal of losing weight or getting fit, I found it was more important to focus on the system you used to get there. In this article I am going to share with you how this change in mind-set can be a complete game changer to the way you approach everything to do with health and fitness.

How Long Does It Take To Achieve Noticeable Health & Fitness Results?

One of life’s realities is that significant improvements take time, they do not happen overnight. Yet when it comes to health and fitness we have been convinced that great results can occur in only 8 weeks or 12 weeks! How often do you see marketing on social media, in magazines and on TV for fitness challenges to get you in your best shape in 12 weeks? Today’s modern world is moving so fast and technology has allowed us to get things at the click of button that we have come to expect instant gratification in just about everything we do. And when it doesn’t happen people become discouraged very quickly and try one of two options. They try to cut corners and try extreme methods to speed things up or they simply give up. And it is not just the people trying to lose weight or get fit, we also see this same mentality with people suffering injuries that require a great deal of rehabilitation and work on their behalf. Many see this work as being too hard and taking too long and search for something to provide instant relief or someone to “fix them” instead. This short term approach only serves to create a much bigger long term problem. In this article I explain why long lasting results with health and fitness take considerable time and as a society we must begin to change our mindset to the way we look at exercise, nutrition, and changing lifestyle habits.
